Oscoda Fire Department has recieved some new extrication tools as a part of the 2002 Fema Grant. The homatro tools are new and lightweight they allow us to use two tools at once. We have kept our old Jaw of life as back up, they were hand me downs from Wurtsmith. When the base closed we took on the responsibility of vehicle extrication. We have strived to improve our skills in this area. The fire service has expanded to way more than just putting out fires.
Part of the FEMA grant was written for training. We required every person on the department to take the state certified basic extrication and advanced cribbing. Each firefighter gave up an entire weekend to complete hours of training. Since this training the june our department has practiced extrication once a month. Some fire department meet monthly some bi-monthly. We meet every week and various weekends to train to provide the community with service on a level that a full-time department would.
Our thanks go to the following businesses for donating time and vehicles for us to practice. We eat at least two cars a month in our practices and we could not do it without the these fine folks help:
Gary Oil Co.
Bills Towing
Zubeck Towing
Smith's Auto Salvage
If you have a vehicle that may fit our needs call 989-739-5962 ask for Jeff Shue.
